“Whisper of the Heart” (耳をすませば, Mimi o Sumaseba), Original Release Japanese B1 Movie Poster 1995, Rare, B1 Size (c. 72.8 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 theatrical poster printed in 1995 for Studio Ghibli’s Whisper of the Heart (耳をすませば)—directed by Yoshifumi Kondō (近藤喜文), with screenplay / storyboards by Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎駿), based on Aoi Hiiragi’s (柊あおい) manga. The film’s Japanese theatrical release date is recorded as 15 July 1995, and it was distributed by Toho.
Film background
A beloved Ghibli coming-of-age story set in suburban Tokyo, Whisper of the Heart follows middle-schooler Shizuku as she’s pulled from daydreams into first love, creative ambition, and the painful, exhilarating work of figuring out who she wants to become. It’s also a landmark in the studio’s history: Kondō’s only feature as director, guided closely by Miyazaki’s script and storyboards.
Design
A pure Ghibli “quiet magic” composition: Shizuku and Seiji on the bicycle in the foreground, the warm home and summer sky behind—paired with the iconic Japanese line 「好きなひとが、できました。」 (“I found someone I like.”). The result is understated, romantic, and instantly recognisable—one of the most display-friendly Ghibli key visuals ever produced.
