"Sanjuro" (椿三十郎), Original Re-Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) J176 A
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1976 for the Japanese re-release of Sanjuro (椿三十郎), directed by Akira Kurosawa and starring Toshirō Mifune in one of his most iconic roles. A companion piece to Yojimbo, the film blends razor-edged action with Kurosawa’s wry humour, following the wandering ronin “Sanjuro” as he manipulates rival factions and reluctantly mentors a group of idealistic young samurai.
Design
A bold, classic Japanese campaign sheet built around pure star power: Mifune dominates the composition in mid-slash, eyes locked forward, with the huge brush-calligraphy title 椿三十郎 running vertically in vivid red. Supporting characters and action vignettes fill the lower band, while the Toho mark and crisp credit blocks anchor it as genuine theatrical material. The poster’s palette—deep reds, earthy tones, and the clean typography—captures the film’s mix of elegance and danger, and it reads incredibly well on a wall.
