“From Up on Poppy Hill” (コクリコ坂から), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 2011, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA826
This is an original Japanese B2 poster issued in Japan for the theatrical release of From Up on Poppy Hill (コクリコ坂から, 2011), the Studio Ghibli romantic coming-of-age drama directed by Gorō Miyazaki and screenwritten by Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa. Set in Yokohama in 1963, the film is a gentle, beautifully observed story of youth, memory, and postwar change—one of Ghibli’s most nostalgic modern-era works and a highly collectible title in original Japanese campaign material.
Poster design
A stunning, painterly key visual rendered in loose, sketch-like lines and watercolour washes—very much in the “illustration” tradition of Ghibli marketing. The heroine is shown raising the signal flags from a small tugboat, surrounded by shimmering sea colour and an airy summer sky, with the handwritten line 「上を向いて歩こう。」 (“Let’s walk looking up.”) floating above—an instantly evocative phrase that anchors the film’s hopeful tone. The bold red vertical title 「コクリコ坂から」 runs down the left, with the release line at the bottom right. Minimal, poetic, and extremely frame-friendly—one of the most beautiful modern Ghibli B2 designs.
