This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1984 for the first Japanese release of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (風の谷のナウシカ), written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Topcraft (the direct predecessor to Studio Ghibli). A foundational work of modern Japanese animation, Nausicaä laid the creative and thematic groundwork for what would soon become Studio Ghibli’s golden era.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world poisoned by the “Sea of Decay,” the film follows Nausicaä—one of Miyazaki’s most iconic heroines—as she tries to understand the natural world and prevent humanity from destroying itself through war. The poster itself proudly lists the film’s major honours, including Japan’s Kinema Junpo Best One ranking and multiple festival and industry awards, as shown in the credit block.

Poster design
The classic original Japanese key art: Nausicaä stands in her blue dress with Teto on her shoulder, framed against the haunting, organic architecture of the toxic jungle and the Ohmu presence behind her—an image that perfectly captures the film’s mix of wonder, danger, and hope. The bold red title 風の谷のナウシカ dominates the top, with the sweeping orange copyline across the centre reading 「少女の愛が奇跡を生んだ…」 (“A girl’s love gave birth to a miracle…”). A timeless, museum-grade Miyazaki display piece.

It is over 40 years old!
