“Ghost in the Shell – PlayStation Soundtrack” (攻殻機動隊 プレイステーション・サウンドトラック), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1997, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O101
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1997 for the retail promotional launch of the Ghost in the Shell PlayStation Soundtrack (marketed as “MEGATECH BODY.CD.”) issued for record and game shops by Sony Computer Entertainment/Kodansha. Dated “7.17 on street,” it advertised the soundtrack’s release alongside the PlayStation game. Scarcer than theatrical materials, these in-store promo sheets were printed in comparatively small numbers and are highly collectible.
Film background
Set in Masamune Shirow’s landmark cyber-punk world, Ghost in the Shell’s 1997 video-game tie-in arrived with a dedicated album of hard-edged electronic tracks under the MEGATECH BODY banner. The project brought together leading ’90s techno/electronica producers and helped cement GITS’s crossover influence across anime, gaming, and club culture.
Poster design
A striking, high-impact composition: a cybernetically linked female figure dominates the left field, cables and optic lines wrapping her body while a tachikoma-style mech scuttles below. The huge blue “7.17” street-date sits over a layered typographic collage (“on Street”), with two miniature jacket images promoting the standard and limited soundtrack editions. Credits along the edges include ©1997 Sony Computer Entertainment Inc./Kodansha Ltd. and design note “DESIGNED × STEREOTYPE PRO ’97.” Bold magenta kanji for 「攻殻機動隊」 anchors the base with the bilingual line “GHOST IN THE SHELL PlayStation SOUNDTRACK.”
