“Innerspace” (インナースペース), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1987, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA1231
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster produced for the first Japanese release of Joe Dante’s Innerspace, starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short and Meg Ryan, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. Distributed by Warner Bros., the film opened in Japan on 5 December 1987 and was promoted as an attraction for the 1988 New Year holiday season, as advertised prominently along the bottom.
Film background
A miniature scientific experiment becomes an extraordinary adventure when test pilot Tuck Pendleton, played by Dennis Quaid, is accidentally injected into the body of an unsuspecting supermarket clerk. With criminals pursuing the technology and time running out, the two unlikely partners must work together to survive.
Combining science fiction, physical comedy and espionage, Innerspace captures the inventive spirit of 1980s Amblin entertainment. Industrial Light & Magic’s visual effects won an Academy Award, while Jerry Goldsmith’s score lends energy and suspense to the film’s journey through the human body.
Poster design
The composition is dominated by an enormous close-up of Dennis Quaid wearing protective goggles, surrounded by electric-blue shadows, white flashes and streaks of light. At the left, Martin Short balances precariously across a red convertible, introducing the film’s comic action.
Below, the palette shifts dramatically into pink and crimson, with the miniature exploration craft travelling through a glowing bodily interior. This contrast neatly connects the adventure outside the body with the strange world within.
The massive orange Japanese title cuts across the centre, accompanied by yellow Spielberg and Joe Dante credits. A small green English INNERSPACE logo sits at the top. The bold white Japanese wording below announces the New Year campaign and declares: “This time, the adventure is inside the body!”
Condition
Excellent overall, with small pinholes, minor localised edge wear and light handling marks. The vivid colours and central imagery retain strong display appeal. Once framed, this poster will display very well.
