This is an original licensed promotional (販促) B2 poster produced in 1988 in Japan for Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro (となりのトトロ). Issued for retail/bookstore and merchandise display (not a cinema one-sheet), it carries period rights for Nibariki / Tokuma Shoten and was distributed by MOVIC.

Poster design
A charming close-crop of Ō-Totoro under an umbrella fills the field, with Chū-Totoro and Chibi-Totoro at left. A chocolate-brown header reads “Tonari no… TOTORO” with the playful line “OH TOTORO CHU TOTORO CHIBI TOTORO.” Along the lower band is the whimsical English copy about the girls moving to the countryside, ending in the large typographic flourish “CLEAM AIR OF THEIR NEW HOME.” Soft pastels and generous white margins give it classic late-’80s Ghibli charm.

Age & authenticity (as printed on this exact example)

  • Lower margin: © 二馬力・徳間書店 with MOVIC mark and serial 0388 (’88 issue), plus boxed 500 code.

  • Lower right: round retailer seal OKAJIMA SHOTEN（岡島書店）—a period bookstore stamp from original display.

  • No distributor/rating/booking text, consistent with a promotional (non-theatrical) issue.
