“Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind — Preview Film” (風の谷のナウシカ プレビューフィルム), Original Japanese Promotional Poster 1984, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O170
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1984 to promote the Preview Film for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, produced by Tokuma Shoten and publicized via Animage magazine (Animage logo and publisher credit printed in the margins). Early Animage/Tokuma promotional sheets from the film’s launch year are highly collectible.
Film background
Hayao Miyazaki’s epoch-making eco-fantasy follows Princess Nausicaä as she seeks harmony between humankind and the toxic Sea of Decay and its colossal Ohmu. Adapted from Miyazaki’s manga serialized in Animage, the 1984 feature became a breakthrough hit that paved the way for the founding of Studio Ghibli.
Poster design
A striking white-field country sheet built as a tiled mosaic of full-color scene stills—flight, battle, Ohmu close-ups, and intimate character beats—arranged in a precise grid. Bold vertical titling at right reads “NAUSICAÄ PREVIEW FILM,” while the left border carries the large date “84・3・11” and the Animage mark. Additional Japanese production credits and the film logo panels appear within the grid—classic hallmarks of an authentic 1984 preview/promotional issue with superb wall presence.
