“Neon Genesis Evangelion — Misato & Asuka” (新世紀エヴァンゲリオン), Original Release Japanese Promotional Poster 1996, Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O490
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed circa 1996 for King Records’ Neon Genesis Evangelion in‑store promotional campaign during the series’ initial home‑video/merchandising push.
Film background
Hideaki Anno’s landmark television series follows Shinji Ikari, Rei Ayanami, and Asuka Langley as they pilot Evangelions to defend Tokyo‑3 while the narrative explores identity, connection, and choice—one of the defining anime works of the 1990s.
Poster design
A minimalist cream field features a striking two‑character composition: Misato Katsuragi stands three‑quarter view in her crimson jacket and black dress, while Asuka Langley Soryu—in her red plugsuit—appears inverted below, hair flowing as their hands nearly meet. The design is a clever dual‑orientation “flip” sheet, with the NEON GENESIS EVANGELION logo printed at opposite corners so the poster can be displayed either way. At the upper logo are printed credits 「原画:中山勝一/仕上げ:高星晴美」, alongside © GAINAX / Project Eva・テレビ東京 and the KING RECORDS / STAR CHILD imprint—hallmarks of an authentic store promo from the period.
