Sale price $235.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1974 for the first release of School of the Holy Beast (聖獣学園 / Seijū Gakuen), Norifumi Suzuki’s celebrated Toei pinky-violence / nunsploitation classic starring Yumi Takigawa.

One of the most visually iconic Japanese exploitation posters of the 1970s, this design combines religious imagery, erotic provocation, stark symmetry, and Toei’s unmistakable theatrical graphic style. It is an especially desirable piece for collectors of pinky violence, Toei cult cinema, and Japanese genre poster art.

Film background
Directed by Norifumi Suzuki, School of the Holy Beast follows Maya, a young woman who enters a convent in search of the truth behind her mother’s death. Within the supposedly sacred world of the convent, she encounters cruelty, repression, desire, punishment, and corruption.

The film is one of Toei’s most famous nunsploitation works, standing alongside the studio’s broader cycle of provocative 1970s genre cinema. Its combination of Catholic iconography, revenge narrative, stylised violence, and highly charged imagery has made it a cult favourite internationally.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 is a superb and highly recognisable design.

The upper half is dominated by Yumi Takigawa in a black-and-white nun’s habit, holding a golden crucifix and staring forward with a calm, severe expression. Her habit extends downward to form a large black triangular silhouette, creating a powerful graphic structure against the pale background and misty forest setting.

Inside the dark triangular form, a line of nuns appears in the background, while the lower section features a dramatic bound figure stretched across the foreground. The contrast between religious costume, ritualised posture, and violent restraint gives the poster its distinctive tension.

The main title 聖獣学園 is printed across the centre in sharp, jagged lettering with a striking colour gradient from green and yellow into red. The hiragana reading 〈せいじゅうがくえん〉 appears above the title, while the pink カラー作品 marking identifies it as a colour production.

The right-side promotional copy reads:

「生んだのは神か、悪魔か、魅せる女、裕美!」
“Was she born of God, or of the Devil — the enchanting woman, Yumi!”

Additional copy describes the dangerous sexuality and hidden corruption within the convent, framing the film as a scandalous and highly charged Toei release.

At lower left, the poster credits 監督 鈴木則文Directed by Norifumi Suzuki — with the cast block printed across the bottom, including Yumi Takigawa, Yayoi Watanabe, and Hayato Tani. The Toei mark appears at the lower right.

Collector significance
Original Japanese B2 posters for Toei pinky-violence titles are increasingly difficult to source in strong condition, and School of the Holy Beast is among the most desirable designs in the genre.

This example has strong crossover appeal to collectors of Japanese exploitation cinema, cult horror, nunsploitation, Norifumi Suzuki, Yumi Takigawa, and 1970s Toei graphic design.
