This is an original Japanese speed‑size theatrical poster produced in 1973 to promote Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (科学忍者隊ガッチャマン), Tatsunoko Production’s groundbreaking TV anime which first aired in 1972. One of the defining science‑fiction action series of the 1970s, Gatchaman helped establish the sentai / team‑hero formula and went on to influence everything from later super‑hero teams to international adaptations like Battle of the Planets.

Design
Printed in the tall, banner‑like speed format used in cinema lobbies, the poster gives centre stage to Ken the Eagle in full Gatchaman gear, sprinting forward with his white bird‑suit, red winged cape and visor‑like helmet sweeping behind him. Sleek white rockets shoot upward from the bottom of the composition, while enemy craft streak across a blazing yellow sky. The bold blue Japanese logo slices diagonally through the design, echoing the sharp, aerodynamic forms of Tatsunoko’s character and mecha design. It’s a pure hit of early‑’70s anime graphic style.

Speed posters were printed in far smaller numbers than standard B2 one‑sheets and were often discarded after the engagement ended. Surviving examples for early‑’70s TV‑anime tie‑ins are particularly scarce, making this Gatchaman piece genuinely hard to find and highly desirable for collectors.
