Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1994 for the animated SLAM DUNK film 全国制覇だ!桜木花道. Produced by Toei Animation and based on the landmark basketball manga by Takehiko Inoue, the film was released during the original 1990s peak of the franchise and belongs to the classic first-generation period of SLAM DUNK anime material.

Film background
First serialised in 1990 and adapted for television from 1993, SLAM DUNK became one of the defining sports manga and anime titles of modern Japan. Centred on Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent who discovers basketball through his infatuation with Haruko Akagi, the series helped transform the cultural visibility of basketball in Japan. This 1994 theatrical feature captures SLAM DUNK at the height of its original popularity, when the television series, manga, and Toei theatrical anime campaigns were all expanding the franchise’s reach.

Poster design
A superb early theatrical design, arranged from a dramatic overhead perspective as Hanamichi Sakuragi rises toward the hoop against rival players, with Kaede Rukawa and other Shohoku / opponent figures surrounding the play. The composition has excellent movement, using foreshortened bodies, cast shadows, and the central basketball to create the feeling of a fast in-game sequence rather than a posed character image.

The right-side red vertical copy reads: 「リバウンドを制する者は試合を制す!! 天才バスケット王・桜木花道誕生!!」 — “He who controls the rebound controls the game!! The birth of genius basketball king Hanamichi Sakuragi!!” The lower section carries the bold SLAM DUNK title logo with 全国制覇だ!桜木花道, identifying the theatrical feature. The upper-left emblem also places the poster within the 1994 Spring Toei Anime Fair campaign, an important context for Japanese theatrical anime releases of the period.

Rarity and significance
Original Japanese theatrical posters for 1990s SLAM DUNK are increasingly sought after, particularly examples from the franchise’s first theatrical run. Unlike later merchandise or reissue material, this poster belongs directly to the original anime boom surrounding Takehiko Inoue’s series. Its dynamic basketball composition and clear 1994 theatrical campaign identity make it a strong collector’s piece for both anime and sports manga collectors.
