“Ben-Hur” (ベン・ハー), Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster 1968 (film 1959), Rare, STB Tatekan Size (approx. 51 × 145 cm / 20" × 57") J124 A
This is an original Japanese STB tatekan theatrical poster printed in 1968 for the Japanese re-release of Ben-Hur, William Wyler’s legendary 1959 epic starring Charlton Heston.
A towering classic of mid-century Hollywood spectacle, Ben-Hur remains one of cinema’s definitive big-screen experiences—famous for its scale, moral drama, and of course the monumental chariot race. The Japanese copy on this design proudly highlights the film’s awards achievement, referencing its famous 11 Academy Award triumph.
This almost 5-foot tall STB format is dramatically scarcer than standard Japanese B2 posters. The tatekan/STB format was produced in much lower quantities for cinema display, and surviving examples—especially for major, globally recognised titles like this—are highly sought after today.
Poster design
A bold, high-impact Japanese design dominated by the colossal BEN-HUR title rendered like carved stone, set against a radiant gold field. The upper section features the film’s Roman-era imagery—including the iconic chariot charge—alongside award motifs and Japanese promotional copy, while the lower half is anchored by huge red typography and vertical Japanese credits. An exceptionally strong, wall-dominant display piece in the classic Japanese tatekan format.
