“Fantasia” (ファンタジア), Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster 1966 (film 1940), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P9

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1966 for a Japanese re-release of Disney’s landmark animated feature Fantasia (ファンタジア). (For context: the film’s first Japanese release was in 1955.)

This 1966 Japanese issue is clearly marked on the artwork as SuperScope (スーパースコープ) with stereophonic “3D sound” (立体音響) and is a beautiful period presentation of Fantasia’s concept: eight animated “visual poems” set to classical masterworks, conducted by Leopold Stokowski with the Philadelphia Orchestra (both credited on the poster).

Poster design
A spectacular, illustration-led Japanese design built around a glowing “egg” motif, ringed by the film’s iconic characters and sequences—pegasus, fairies, centaurs, mushrooms, dancing animals, and more—culminating in the conductor silhouette at the bottom, flanked by the orchestra. The central programme list is printed on the sheet (Toccata & Fugue, Nutcracker Suite, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Rite of Spring, Pastoral Symphony, Dance of the Hours, Night on Bald Mountain, Ave Maria), and the poster also highlights its prestige with Academy special award call-outs (アカデミー特別賞受賞) and Japanese recommendation notices (as pictured).

It is over 59 years old!
