“Kuroneko” (黒猫), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1968, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O773
This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1968 for the first theatrical release of Kuroneko (黒猫), a Japan horror / ghost film directed by Kaneto Shindō, starring Kiwako Taichi and Nobuko Otowa, with Kei Satō.
Film background
Released in 1968, Kuroneko is one of the great Japanese kaidan films—an eerie, sensual period ghost story set against the violence of civil war. After two women are attacked and killed, they return as supernatural avengers, luring samurai to their fate in a ruined, bamboo-shadowed world. Shindō blends folkloric horror with modernist intensity, creating a film celebrated for its atmosphere, erotic menace, and striking monochrome imagery.
Poster design
A dramatic, collage-style B2 built around pure visual impact: a huge pair of watchful eyes dominates the upper field, while the title 「黒猫」 is painted in aggressive, brush-stroke red calligraphy down the centre—like a wound across the image. Below, the composition erupts into period chaos: flames, soldiers, and weaponry frame two terrified, luminous women in the foreground, with a ghostly procession rising from the darkness. The overall palette—soot blacks, ash greys, and blood red—perfectly sells the film’s blend of sensuality and dread.
