This is an original Japanese silk screen poster printed in the 1968. This poster is ultra rare and is displayed in the world`s most prestigious galleries such as MoMA in New York City. It is very difficult / almost impossible to find in any condition.

Japan Poster Shop has acquired a substantial and unique collection of original Tadanori Yokoo posters from one of the most prolific collectors in Japan. This individual has a very colorful life story, having invested and dedicated many decades to his love for Tadanori Yokoo`s vibrant designs.

This silkscreen poster for the Japanese new-wave film Diary of a Shinjuku Burglar, directed by Oshima Nagisa, showcases Yokoo Tadanori's signature psychedelic color palette and photomontage technique, capturing the film’s surreal aesthetic. The story centers on a young man (played by Yokoo himself) and a bookshop clerk (played by Yokoyama Rie) who catches him stealing, exploring themes of sexuality and identity within the context of 1960s youth culture in Tokyo's Shinjuku district. Oshima blends black-and-white photography with vibrant color footage to blur the lines between fantasy and reality.

The poster features the names of the cast and crew, with figures cut from film stills integrated into the design. Oshima’s portrait appears at the top, above the film’s title, while central images of Yokoo and Yokoyama are surrounded by the upside-down legs of a man from an early scene in the film. Additional figures from the film include avant-garde playwright Kara Juro at the bottom, Freudian sexologist Takahashi Tetsu on the left, and Tanabe Moichi, founder of the Shinjuku bookstore Kinokuniya (now an international chain), on the right.

Please refer to the imagery (both front and back) as this is the exact poster that is for sale.
