This is an original Japanese silk screen poster printed in the 1968. This poster is ultra rare and is displayed in the world`s most prestigious galleries such as MoMA in New York City. It is very difficult / almost impossible to find in any condition.
Japan Poster Shop has acquired a substantial and unique collection of original Tadanori Yokoo posters from one of the most prolific collectors in Japan. This individual has a very colorful life story, having invested and dedicated many decades to his love for Tadanori Yokoo`s vibrant designs.
In 1968, the year this poster was created, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam entered Saigon, a fierce movement to prevent the docking of the U.S. nuclear aircraft carrier Enterprise was underway in Sasebo, and in Tokyo, members of the Beheiren marched from Shinanomachi to Shinjuku, singing folk and protest songs. From that point on, they began holding rallies every Saturday at the Shinjuku West Exit Underground Plaza, calling themselves the "Tokyo Folk Guerrillas." Campus protests also spread rapidly across the country, marking the beginning of an intense political season that would culminate in the 1970 Security Treaty protests.
By this time, Yokoo's distinctive pattern compositions, incorporating pre-modern imagery, had become unmistakably his own. His fan base was growing, and his designs and illustrations were gaining widespread recognition. As usual, the manga-like expressions "Uhahaha" and "Hyahya" in this poster intensify the visual impact, adding a sense of playful scandal. This poster, the third Yokoo created after returning from his first trip to America, is notable for its use of fluorescent ink, a nod to the psychedelic hippie posters that were popular in New York at the time.
