“The Brain” (大頭脳), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1969 (film 1969), B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P8
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1969 for the first Japanese release of The Brain (released in Japan as 大頭脳, original title Le cerveau), Gérard Oury’s brilliantly entertaining crime-comedy about a high-stakes plot to rob a train carrying NATO funds—triggering rival schemes, double-crosses, and escalating chaos. The film first opened in Japan on 9 August 1969.
Starring Jean-Paul Belmondo, Bourvil, and David Niven (with an international supporting cast), The Brain is a classic late-1960s caper—fast, clever, and packed with set-pieces that made it a favourite with audiences well beyond France.
Poster design
A fantastic, high-impact Japanese photomontage: the Statue of Liberty tilts dramatically under helicopter action, while trains, ships, and chase imagery collide beneath a massive vertical title 大頭脳 in bold red. The lower portion features a lively collage of character heads and comedic action beats—perfectly capturing the film’s “big caper” energy. A superb, frame-ready Japanese B2 with strong pop-era graphic appeal.
It is over 56 years old!
