“Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx” (子連れ狼 三途の川の乳母車), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1972, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O769
This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1972 for the first theatrical release of Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (子連れ狼 三途の川の乳母車), a Japan exploitation-era chanbara classic directed by Kenji Misumi, starring Tomisaburō Wakayama (Ogami Itto) and Akihiro Tomikawa (Daigorō), with key supporting cast including Kayo Matsuo and Akiji Kobayashi.
Film background
Released in 1972, Baby Cart at the River Styx is the second film in the Lone Wolf and Cub cycle—an ultra-stylised, brutally elegant tale of a disgraced executioner-turned-assassin who wanders Edo-period Japan with his young son in a weaponised baby cart. The series’ blend of operatic violence, fatalism, and graphic iconography has made it a cornerstone of cult Japanese cinema and hugely influential on later filmmakers worldwide.
Poster design
One of the most powerful Lone Wolf and Cub campaign designs: an immense monochrome close-up of Ogami Itto’s face fills the upper left, mirrored by Daigorō’s solemn child portrait at upper right—father and son rendered like fate itself. Below, three straw-hatted figures advance through shadow, while the title 「子連れ狼」 explodes across the centre in bold, brushy yellow, over the blood-red subtitle 「三途の川の乳母車」. The lower section erupts into painterly action—swords drawn, bodies tumbling—capturing the film’s relentless combat energy. A dramatic, museum-grade B2 with enormous wall presence.
