This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1983 for a Japanese re-release of Luchino Visconti’s Rocco e i suoi fratelli (Rocco and His Brothers / ロッコと兄弟たち).
Film background
First released in 1960, Visconti’s Rocco and His Brothers is a landmark of Italian cinema—an epic family drama following a southern Italian family who migrate to Milan, where work, desire, jealousy and violence begin to fracture the bonds between the brothers. Blending neorealist grit with operatic emotional scale, it remains one of the definitive post-war European films, with standout performances led by Alain Delon.
Poster design
A beautifully restrained, modern Japanese 1983 revival design built around a single black-and-white rooftop embrace, set against Milan’s gothic spires—romantic and bleak at once. The image is framed by crisp teal-and-purple border accents over a deep grey ground, with bold purple Japanese typography 「若者のすべて」 (“All About Young People”) dominating the lower half, paired with the green title cartouche 「ロッコと兄弟たち」. Along the bottom, cast portraits appear in rounded frames (including Alain Delon and Claudia Cardinale), giving the poster a clean, gallery-like early-’80s art-house look.
