“School of the Holy Beast” (聖獣学園), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1974, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) N65A
This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1974 for the first release of School of the Holy Beast (聖獣学園), directed by Norifumi Suzuki and produced/distributed in Japan as part of the era’s boundary-pushing 1970s exploitation cinema.
Film background
Released in 1974, School of the Holy Beast is a cult Japanese “nunsploitation” / erotic-gothic drama set within the charged, ritualised world of a convent school. The film blends religious iconography, transgression, and stylised melodrama—very much of its time—crafted for audiences drawn to provocative genre cinema and sensational poster-led marketing.
Poster design
A spectacularly confrontational B2 dominated by stark Catholic imagery and graphic contrast: a central, front-facing nun holds a crucifix like an accusation, her black habit forming a monolithic silhouette against a pale field. Across the midsection, the title 「聖獣学園」 slashes the composition in aggressive, multicolour typography, with a cold blue forest band running behind it to heighten the sense of isolation and menace. Below, a near-surreal nude figure is shown stretched and bound—an extreme visual hook—while a line of nuns gathers in the shadows beneath the habit, reinforcing the film’s themes of secrecy, power, and taboo. It’s a quintessential 1970s Japanese exploitation one-sheet: bold, symbolic, and designed to stop you in your tracks.
