This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1968 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Spirits of the Dead (世にも怪奇な物語 / Histoires extraordinaires), a France / Italy anthology film inspired by Edgar Allan Poe, directed by Federico Fellini, Louis Malle, and Roger Vadim, starring Alain Delon, Brigitte Bardot, and Jane Fonda (with Terence Stamp).

Film background
Released in 1968, Spirits of the Dead is a stylish Euro-anthology of three Poe-inspired tales—an art-house “horror” showcase that fuses Gothic mood with late-1960s glamour and auteur experimentation. Each segment carries the imprint of its director, making the film a fascinating collision of European star power, modernist cinema language, and macabre source material.

Poster design
A magnificent Japanese exploitation-art-house hybrid: the title 「世にも怪奇な物語」 is scrawled across the top in huge, blood-red brush lettering, immediately setting a supernatural tone. The centre is dominated by a ruined stone castle under stormy skies, while a gleaming bronze sports car bursts into the foreground—an arresting juxtaposition of Gothic decay and modern luxury. A dagger/weapon close-up hovers at upper left like a threat, and small portrait panels along the bottom frame the star cast in pure late-’60s glamour. The overall composition feels like a fever dream—exactly right for this kind of European anthology cinema, and an exceptionally displayable B2.
