“Taxi Driver” (タクシー・ドライバー), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1976, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) E182A

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1976 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Taxi Driver (タクシー・ドライバー), a United States film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Paul Schrader, starring Robert De Niro with Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, and Albert Brooks.

Film background
Released in 1976, Taxi Driver is one of the defining films of New Hollywood—an unsettling, nocturnal portrait of isolation and moral corrosion in post-Vietnam urban America. De Niro’s Travis Bickle, a sleepless cabbie drifting through the neon grime of New York, became an enduring cinematic figure, while the film’s psychological intensity and uncompromising style helped cement Scorsese as a major auteur. It won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and remains a cornerstone of modern cinema.

Poster design
A classic Japanese campaign design that feels as cold and lonely as the film itself. Travis stands isolated at centre—hands in jacket pockets, head bowed—against a high-contrast, almost collage-like New York street background filled with signage and urban noise. The mood is documentary-real, while the typography is boldly graphic: the huge blue katakana title 「タクシー・ドライバー」 dominates the lower third, paired with the English TAXI DRIVER mark and a Cannes Grand Prix/Palme d’Or callout. A superb, minimalist one-sheet with enormous wall presence.
