“Violent City” (狼の挽歌), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1970, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) O762
This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1970 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Violent City (狼の挽歌 / Città violenta), a Italy / France crime thriller directed by Sergio Sollima, starring Charles Bronson with Jill Ireland (and Telly Savalas).
Film background
Released in 1970, Violent City is a hard-boiled European crime film built around Bronson’s cool, steel-eyed presence at the height of his international stardom. Set against a sunlit Mediterranean backdrop, it blends noir fatalism with late-’60s/early-’70s violence and style—part gangster drama, part revenge narrative—typical of the era’s Italian genre cinema crossing into global markets.
Poster design
A striking, high-impact Japanese design that weaponises minimalism and tension. The composition is split by a vertical gun barrel running like a dividing line through the frame, while Bronson fills the lower half—eye pressed to a rifle scope, face bruised and resolute. Above and to the right, Jill Ireland’s wide-eyed portrait floats in soft focus against city lights, adding glamour and threat. The title 「狼の挽歌」 appears in bold, brush-like green calligraphy down the left, instantly memorable against the dark ground. At bottom, the English credit “CHARLES BRONSON IN VIOLENT CITY” anchors the sheet—one of those superb Japanese B2s where typography and imagery feel perfectly “designed,” not merely advertised.
