Released in 1971, Zachariah is an eccentric cult favourite—often described as the “first electric western”—blending spaghetti-western styling with late-’60s/early-’70s rock energy. A coming-of-age, guns-and-guitars road story, it channels the era’s youth culture into a surreal frontier world where shoot-outs and stage performances collide, making it a unique artefact of American counterculture cinema.
Poster design
An extraordinary Japanese pop-art composition that fully embraces the film’s hybrid premise. The centre is dominated by a huge, colour-treated face in sunglasses—each lens holding a different vignette (motorbike action; a guitarist), with a cigarette hanging from the mouth, while a colossal revolver fills the right side like a graphic monument. Above, a blazing red-orange “sunset arch” frames a reclining guitarist atop a strange platform, with silhouettes of frontier architecture and riders in the distance—part western iconography, part psychedelic stage fantasy.
