“La Dolce Vita” (甘い生活), Original Japanese Re-Release Movie Poster 1982, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) J251A
This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1982 for a Japanese re-release of Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita (甘い生活), one of the landmark works of post-war European cinema.
Film background
First released in 1960, La Dolce Vita is Fellini’s sprawling, episodic portrait of Rome’s nightlife and spiritual drift, following gossip journalist Marcello as he moves through parties, celebrities, and empty glamour in search of meaning. Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, the film helped define the modern idea of “paparazzi” culture and remains a cornerstone of world cinema—bold in structure, rich in imagery, and enduringly influential.
Poster design
A beautifully composed Japanese B2 that blends photomontage and bold typography. Anita Ekberg dominates the sheet in a flowing black dress with a peach-toned drape, posed like a nightclub icon against a collage of black-and-white party scenes and Roman architecture—echoing the film’s collision of decadence and ruin. The title 「甘い生活」 runs vertically in vivid pink, cutting through the composition like neon signage, while the left-side English/Japanese credits emphasise FEDERICO FELLINI / LA DOLCE VITA and the film’s Cannes Grand Prix/Palme d’Or-era prestige. It’s an exceptionally displayable design—glamour-forward, graphic, and unmistakably “European art cinema” as marketed in Japan in the early 1980s.
