This is an original Japanese B2 movie poster printed in 1989 for the first Japanese theatrical release of Mystery Train (ミステリー・トレイン), a United States / Japan independent drama directed by Jim Jarmusch, starring Masatoshi Nagase, Youki Kudoh, and Nicoletta Braschi, with Joe Strummer, Steve Buscemi, and Tom Waits.

Film background
Released in 1989, Mystery Train is one of Jarmusch’s defining films—three interconnected stories unfolding over a single night in Memphis, threaded together by chance encounters, music, and the city’s Elvis-haunted atmosphere. The film won the Best Artistic Contribution award at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival and remains a key work of late-’80s American indie cinema, blending deadpan humour with melancholy and dreamlike urban texture.

Poster design
A beautifully composed Japanese B2 that feels like a night photograph turned into cinema. The top half captures a neon-lit Memphis street corner—two figures paused beneath glowing signage—while the lower half becomes a clean, graphic information panel in deep indigo. The large Japanese title 「ミステリー・トレイン」 dominates the centre, with a circular inset of a train cutting through green landscape and a strip of film stills along the bottom framing the three storylines. Cannes award text sits prominently across the upper band, reinforcing the film’s art-house prestige. A superb, highly displayable Jarmusch-era sheet with strong atmosphere.
