This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1984 for the first Japanese release of Tightrope (タイトロープ), the dark, adult thriller directed by Richard Tuggle and starring Clint Eastwood as a New Orleans detective hunting a serial killer. One of Eastwood’s most psychologically charged 1980s films, it blends police procedural tension with a distinctly noir, late-night atmosphere.
Design
A bold, confrontational Japan-market design dominated by a vivid red field and a central black vertical band: Eastwood aims a revolver straight at the viewer, his face split by the barrel, while the silhouetted figure of the killer recedes into the darkness behind him. Along the bottom, a handcuffed arm reaches up from the frame—an immediately striking visual hook that amplifies the film’s themes of obsession, danger, and vulnerability. The oversized Japanese title 「タイトロープ」 anchors the top with huge wall presence—graphic, aggressive, and unmistakably 1980s.
