Sale price $115.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1987 for the Toei Manga Matsuri summer programme, featuring four major titles from the period: Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢), Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle (ドラゴンボール 魔神城のねむり姫), Hikari Sentai Maskman (光戦隊マスクマン), and Choujinki Metalder (超人機メタルダー).

Programme background
The Toei Manga Matsuri was one of Japan’s most important children’s and family theatrical programmes, presenting multiple anime and tokusatsu features together as a single cinema event. This 1987 poster captures a particularly strong late-1980s line-up, bringing together two major anime properties — Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya — alongside two live-action tokusatsu franchises, Maskman and Metalder.

For collectors of 1980s Japanese anime and tokusatsu, this is a highly appealing crossover piece, representing Toei’s theatrical marketing at the height of the period’s Saturday-morning / summer-holiday entertainment culture.

Poster design
A wonderfully colourful and densely composed Toei festival design, framed by bright foliage and the large pink campaign title おまちどーさま 夏休みビッグ4プレゼント, advertising the programme as a major “summer holiday Big 4” event.

The upper section is dominated by Pegasus Seiya from Saint Seiya and Son Goku from Dragon Ball, both shown in bold action poses against a bright blue and yellow background. Below, the live-action hero properties fill the lower section: the Hikari Sentai Maskman team appear at left with their mecha, while Choujinki Metalder stands prominently at right against a vivid pink burst.

The poster’s strength lies in its very 1980s theatrical energy: saturated colour, multiple franchise logos, layered character artwork, and a strong festival layout designed to excite children and families at cinema entrance displays.

Rarity and significance
Original 1980s Toei Manga Matsuri posters are increasingly collectible, especially examples featuring major franchises that remain culturally important today. This poster is particularly desirable because it includes Dragon Ball during its early theatrical period and Saint Seiya during its original boom years, alongside classic tokusatsu material from the same programme.
