“Aliens: Special Edition”, Original Japanese Home Video Promotional Poster 1992, Fox Video, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) Q269

Sale price $235.00

This is an original Japanese B2 home video promotional poster produced for the Japanese Fox Video release of Aliens: Special Edition, James Cameron’s expanded version of his landmark 1986 science-fiction action classic.

This is not a standard theatrical poster. It was produced for Japanese video-store / home-video promotion, advertising the Special Wide Screen Collector’s Edition release. Japanese rental-store and video-shop posters were printed in much smaller quantities than cinema posters and were usually discarded after the promotion period, making surviving examples increasingly difficult to find.

Film background
Directed by James Cameron, Aliens is one of the defining science-fiction action films of the 1980s. Expanding the universe created in Ridley Scott’s Alien, Cameron transformed the material into a high-intensity survival, military, and creature-horror epic.

The Special Edition is especially important to collectors and fans because it restores additional footage, deepening the story, character relationships, and world-building. This release was marketed as the Special Wide Screen Collector’s Edition, positioning it as the definitive home-video presentation of the film at the time.

Poster design
This Japanese B2 uses the powerful Special Edition key art in a striking English-dominant layout. The central image shows the film’s heroine carrying a young girl through a field of alien eggs, weapon in hand, surrounded by blue industrial light and looming organic forms. The composition is tense, protective, and immediately iconic.

Across the top, the classic tagline reads:

“There Are Some Places In The Universe You Don’t Go Alone.”

The artwork is framed within a clean white border and set against a deep black field, giving the poster a strong gallery-like presentation. The bottom section features the metallic blue ALIENS title, with SPECIAL EDITION and SPECIAL WIDE SCREEN COLLECTOR’S EDITION printed beneath in gold and white.

The lower margin includes the full credits block, together with the 20th Century Fox and Fox Video logos, confirming its original home-video promotional purpose.

Rarity and format notes
Japanese video-store promotional posters were produced for a very different purpose than theatrical posters. They were sent to rental shops, video retailers, and home-media outlets to promote VHS and LaserDisc releases, and they were rarely preserved with the same care as cinema posters.

For major science-fiction titles, these posters have become increasingly collectible because they document the rise of home video culture in Japan during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This example is particularly desirable because it promotes the Special Edition release of one of the most important science-fiction films of the period.

Condition
Very Good vintage display condition. Please review the photos carefully, as they show the exact poster for sale, including the front, back, and angled display view.

This example shows visible signs of previous display and storage. These are consistent with Japanese video-store promotional use and have been taken into account when pricing.

Despite these signs of use, the poster retains strong colour, excellent central imagery, and very good overall display impact. Once framed, it will present very well.
