“Heat” (ヒート), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1995, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P47
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster issued in Japan for the first Japanese release of Heat (1995) — Michael Mann’s landmark Los Angeles crime epic starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, and celebrated for its cool, exacting realism and operatic scale.
Film background
Heat remains one of the defining modern crime films: a meticulous, high-stakes duel between a veteran LAPD detective and a master thief, set against a nocturnal cityscape of glass, asphalt and sodium light. Mann’s approach is famously “procedural” — the film treats firearms, tactics and teamwork with rare seriousness — but it’s also deeply human, anchored by two men who recognise themselves in each other even as they move inexorably toward collision.
Poster design
This Japanese design leans into pure mythic confrontation. A vast, icy-blue close-up of De Niro dominates the upper field, his face turned in profile like a carved relief — all restraint and pressure. Below, the title HEAT appears in monumental serif lettering, with the bold red katakana 「ヒート」 cutting through the darkness like a warning flare. At the base, Pacino emerges from a sea of city lights — a tense, heat-hazed “street level” counterpoint — giving the composition a perfect top-to-bottom escalation: quiet intensity above, urban ignition below. It’s an exceptionally strong Japanese layout: minimal, elegant, and built entirely around star power and atmosphere.
A desirable first-release Japanese B2 for one of the most collected crime titles of the era.
