"Princess Mononoke", Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 1997, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) E128

Sale price $300.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed in 1997 for the first domestic theatrical release of Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫), directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli for Tokuma Shoten / NTV / Dentsu, with domestic distribution by Toho.

Important note on authenticity:
many official modern reproductions of this poster are circulating (often sold in Ghibli stores for low prices). The example offered here is 100% an original first-release printing from 1997—buy with confidence.

Film background
Set in late-Muromachi Japan, the epic follows Ashitaka, an Emishi prince drawn into a struggle between forest gods and the encroaching human world. Voiced by Yōji Matsuda, Yuriko Ishida, Yūko Tanaka and others, the film became 1997’s top box-office hit in Japan and a landmark of global animation, later popularized abroad via Neil Gaiman’s English script.

Poster design
One of the canonical country sheets: a blood-marked San stands in the foreground with her bone necklace and mask at her side, backed by the immense white wolf Moro. The vertical catchphrase 「生きろ。」 (“Live.”) slashes the left margin, while the vivid red brush title 「もののけ姫」 anchors the base beside credit blocks and the Studio Ghibli / Toho marks—classic hallmarks of a first-release sheet with commanding wall presence.

This poster is in excellent condition (please refer to the imagery of the exact poster for sale).

It is not a reproduction or a reprint.

Certificate of Authenticity included.
