“Isle of Dogs” (犬ヶ島), Original First Release Japanese Movie Poster 2018, B1 Size (c. 72.8 × 103 cm)

Sale price $350.00

This is an original Japanese theatrical B1 poster printed in 2018 for the first release of Isle of Dogs (犬ヶ島), written and directed by Wes Anderson—his stop-motion odyssey set in a near-future Japan, featuring an extraordinary voice cast including Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, and Tilda Swinton.

Isle of Dogs is a richly stylised fable about loyalty, exile, and political scapegoating: after a canine flu outbreak, the dogs of Megasaki City are deported to a vast trash island. When Atari (voiced by Koyu Rankin) secretly flies to the island to rescue his beloved dog Spots, he joins a pack of strays and begins uncovering a conspiracy at the heart of the city’s leadership. The film premiered to major acclaim and won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival, further cementing Anderson’s reputation for meticulous world-building and design-driven storytelling.

Design
This Japanese B1 campaign artwork is one of the strongest international poster designs for the film: Atari and the dogs are staged in a perfectly centred crate composition, framed by stark negative space and anchored by bold typographic blocks. The Japanese title 犬ヶ島 (“Dog Island”) is rendered as an enormous red graphic structure, with the English title nested within in black-and-yellow panels—pure Wes Anderson design logic: symmetrical, playful, and instantly readable from distance. The full cast list in Japanese and English typography flanks the image, giving it the feel of a clean “programme poster” while still functioning as a striking display piece.

Notably, this example is double-sided (printed with reversed image on the verso) for cinema display and potential backlit use—a format that is far scarcer than standard single-sided posters and highly desirable to collectors.

Condition
Excellent / Near Mint. This B1 is double-sided, with crisp colour, strong contrast, and only the lightest edge handling from careful storage. Please review the photos (front and back)—they show the exact poster for sale.
