Sale price $650.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical advance poster printed in 2003 for the first-release Japanese campaign of Kill Bill: Volume 1. Directed by Quentin Tarantino, the film stars Uma Thurman as The Bride, with Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, David Carradine, and Sonny Chiba.

Film background
Released in 2003, Kill Bill: Volume 1 is one of Quentin Tarantino’s most visually recognisable films, blending martial arts cinema, Japanese chanbara, revenge drama, exploitation cinema, anime sequences, and 1970s genre homage. The film follows The Bride, a former assassin who awakens from a coma and begins a violent quest for revenge against the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. Its Japanese references, including Hattori Hanzō swords, yakuza imagery, and samurai-film influence, made the Japanese release campaign especially significant.

Poster design
A striking Japanese advance campaign design, dominated by Uma Thurman in her iconic yellow-and-black tracksuit, a direct homage to Bruce Lee’s costume in Game of Death. The composition is built around the horizontal line of the Hattori Hanzō katana, held across The Bride’s face, creating a sharp cinematic focal point.

The poster uses the film’s now-iconic yellow palette, with red title typography and a central black cross motif cut through by a blood-red slash. The vertical Japanese tagline at upper left reads: 「許せない。許さない。」 — “Unforgivable. Will not forgive.” At the lower section, the title treatment combines the bold English KILL BILL logo with the Japanese katakana キル・ビル, alongside the advance release text “The 4th Film by Quentin Tarantino”, “2003.October”, and the original Japanese campaign website killbill.jp.
