“METAL GEAR AC!D” (メタルギア アシッド), Original Japanese PSP Store Promotional Poster 2004, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) Q149

Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese B2 store promotional poster issued by Konami in 2004 for METAL GEAR AC!D, the PlayStation Portable title released for the Japanese PSP launch. The poster advertises the game’s release date of 2004.12.16, the same day the PSP hardware launched in Japan, positioning it as one of the system’s key early titles.

Game background
Released in 2004, METAL GEAR AC!D was a major departure from the mainline Metal Gear formula. Rather than traditional real-time stealth action, the game introduced a turn-based, card-driven tactical system, requiring strategy, planning, and resource management. This made it a distinctive experimental entry in the series and an important early showcase for the PSP.

The game features Solid Snake alongside Teliko Friedman, a new female protagonist created for AC!D. Its visual identity is closely tied to the ink-heavy, tactical illustration language associated with the Metal Gear series, with artwork by Tsubasa Masao under the wider creative influence of longtime series artist Yoji Shinkawa.

Poster design
A striking and minimalist Japanese retail display design, dominated by illustrated key art of Solid Snake and Teliko Friedman standing back-to-back with weapons drawn. Behind them, a faint monochrome military squad appears in the background, adding a tactical battlefield atmosphere without overwhelming the clean white composition.

The right side is occupied by enormous vertical black typography reading METAL GEAR AC!D, giving the poster strong graphic impact from a distance. The upper section carries the KONAMI, PlayStation, and PSP logos, while the lower left features an image of the original black PSP-1000 hardware with the game displayed on screen.

The vertical Japanese slogan beside Snake reads: 「アシッドは脳で解け!」“Solve AC!D with your brain!” This is a clever campaign line, directly signalling the game’s shift from action reflexes to tactical thinking.

Rarity and significance
Original Japanese PSP launch-era store posters are increasingly collectible, especially examples connected to major franchises. This poster is particularly desirable because it represents Metal Gear’s first major PSP-era promotional push, tied directly to the launch of Sony’s handheld console in Japan.

As a shop-display poster, it was intended for short-term retail advertising rather than preservation, making surviving examples in strong condition increasingly difficult to find.
