Sale price $125.00

This is an original Japanese B2 promotional poster printed in 2003 for the special classic French cinema retrospective “France ga Ippai” (フランスがいっぱい). The campaign was organised by Comstock in collaboration with Geneon Entertainment, promoting a series of new-print theatrical re-releases of major French films. The poster is especially notable for its dominant use of imagery from Purple Noon (Plein Soleil / 太陽がいっぱい), directed by René Clément and starring Alain Delon, Marie Laforêt, and Maurice Ronet.

Film / retrospective background
Released in 1960, Purple Noon is one of the defining European thrillers of the post-war period and helped establish Alain Delon as an international screen icon. Adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, the film is celebrated for its Mediterranean atmosphere, psychological tension, and Delon’s cool, dangerous screen presence. This 2003 Japanese retrospective placed Purple Noon alongside other important French cinema classics, presenting them to contemporary audiences in high-quality new prints.

Poster design
A clean and elegant Japanese retrospective design, built around a grid of stills from the featured French films. The large hero image at the top shows Alain Delon at the helm in Purple Noon, set against sunlit sea and sky, giving the poster its strongest visual anchor.

Below, the grid includes stills from other classics in the programme, including Pot-Bouille, Notre-Dame de Paris, Pépé le Moko, and Belle de Jour, with Catherine Deneuve prominently represented. The right side is dominated by the large vertical title フランスがいっぱい, set against a deep blue field with a stylised Eiffel Tower illustration at the base. The accompanying copy identifies the programme as an “eternal cinema collection”, while the red vertical text promotes the glamour, fashion, fragrance, and atmosphere of French film culture presented in new print form.
