“Dreams” (夢), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1990, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) L144

Sale price $120.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1990 for the first release of Akira Kurosawa’s Dreams (夢)—his late-career mosaic of eight visionary vignettes drawn from recurring dream imagery, where childhood wonder slowly gives way to ecological warning and spiritual reflection.

Film background
Unlike Kurosawa’s more plot-driven classics, Dreams is deliberately episodic and symbolic—built from colour, weather, landscape, and myth. It has become a favourite among collectors precisely because it distils Kurosawa’s visual philosophy into a series of pure cinematic “paintings,” and the Japanese posters for the film are among the most elegant of his modern-era releases.

Poster design
A striking, gallery-minimal variant dominated by the monumental cobalt brush-calligraphy 「夢」 (“Dreams”) floating on a soft silver-grey field. A vivid rainbow arcs across the composition, breaking into small confetti-like colour squares—an inspired visual metaphor for memory fragments and dream logic. The typography is restrained and refined (“Akira Kurosawa’s DREAMS”), with a lone figure at the bottom grounding the scale and quiet wonder of the design. An exceptionally frameable Kurosawa one-sheet with huge wall impact.
