“Again” (アゲイン), Original Japanese First-Release Movie Poster 1984, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) ZA920

Sale price $124.00

This is an original Japanese B2 poster produced for the 1984 first theatrical release of Again, written and directed by Toshihiko Yahagi. Created to commemorate Nikkatsu’s 70th anniversary, the film celebrates the studio’s golden age of action cinema through a richly assembled anthology of romance, rebellion, gunfights, and unforgettable screen personalities.

Film background
Released in Japan on 18 February 1984, Again combines scenes from 37 Nikkatsu films with newly filmed material featuring Joe Shishido as an ageing hitman searching for a former rival. This framing story connects the archive footage into an affectionate journey through the studio’s cinematic past.

The selection brings together stars including Yujiro Ishihara, Akira Kobayashi, Keiichiro Akagi, Ruriko Asaoka, and Sayuri Yoshinaga, with excerpts from films such as Crazed Fruit, I Am Waiting, and A Colt Is My Passport. It captures the distinctive mixture of toughness, glamour, melancholy, and youthful defiance associated with classic Nikkatsu cinema.

Poster design
A striking photographic collage surrounds a large, pink-tinted image of an embracing couple. Smaller panels contain star portraits, confrontations, waterfront scenes, and a gunman on horseback, creating a lively visual survey of the films celebrated within.

The photographs alternate between pink, yellow, pale blue, and monochrome, separated by thin red borders. A bright red panel near the top carries the director’s credit and the nostalgic promise: “The women were exceptionally beautiful, and the men were exceptionally tough.”

Oversized white AGAIN lettering dominates the lower section, crossed by a navy banner with yellow lettering reading “All That’s Nikkatsu Cinema.” The Japanese title appears beneath in vivid red, while columns of featured film titles complete this beautifully detailed tribute.

Condition
Very Good / Excellent. Light handling creases, minor edge wear, and faint marks on the reverse are visible. The colourful montage remains strong and clear, and the poster will display beautifully framed.
