"Au hasard Balthazar", Original First Re-Release Movie Poster 1995 (for 1966 film), Ultra Rare, SIGNED, B2 Size (51 x 73cm) O659

Sale price $750.00

This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster (for June 1995 Japanese first re-release) for Robert Bresson’s 1966 masterpiece Au hasard Balthazar, released in Japan under the title バルタザールどこへ行く (literally, “Where are you going, Balthazar?”). The artwork on this piece is Japanese-poster exclusive—a striking, minimalist design that makes it an incredible display item and a rare collectible.

What truly elevates this poster into a major collector’s piece is the authentic handwritten French dedication and signature of Anne Wiazemsky, the film’s lead actress (Marie). She signed the poster when attending the first screening of the 1995 re-release in Tokyo. It was then displayed in the cinema until it closed down in 2010`s.

Handwritten inscription (French):
Vive le cinéma ! avec amitié !
Translation (English):Long live cinema! With friendship!
Signed by: Anne Wiazemsky

About the Film:
Directed by Robert Bresson, Au hasard Balthazar is one of the most revered works of European art-house cinema. The film follows the life of a donkey, Balthazar, as he passes through different owners—his quiet endurance mirroring the human cruelty, tenderness, and moral conflict around him. Anne Wiazemsky’s portrayal of Marie is central to the story’s emotional weight and has helped make the film a landmark of world cinema.

This poster is not only a rare original Japanese promotional artifact, but a piece of film history made even more special by a clear, personal autograph and dedication from one of the film’s key performers.
