"Double Indemnity" (深夜の告白), Original First Japanese Release Movie Poster 1953, Ultra Rare, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) M157

Sale price $1,500.00

This is an original Japanese poster printed in 1953 for the very first post-war Japanese theatrical release of Billy Wilder’s 1944 film-noir masterpiece Double Indemnity.

  • Country-of-origin art: Japanese title 深夜の告白 (Shinya no Kokuhaku – “Midnight Confession”) rendered in sweeping teal brush lettering against a fiery orange gradient. A painterly close-up of Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck frames their fatal embrace, while Edward G. Robinson stands to the right, suspicion in hand.

  • Ultra rare: In more than a decade of collecting we have encountered only this example from the 1953 release—Japan’s first chance to see Wilder’s taboo tale after World War II. Virtually unseen outside specialist archives.

  • Film legacy: Nominated for seven Academy Awards®, the picture defined film noir’s moral shadows: insurance salesman Walter Neff (MacMurray) and femme fatale Phyllis Dietrichson (Stanwyck) plot her husband’s murder, only to be undone by claims investigator Barton Keyes (Robinson). Wilder’s razor dialogue and John F. Seitz’s expressionist lighting still set the genre standard.

It is over 70 years old!
