Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom is widely considered one of the greatest co‑op fantasy beat ’em up arcade games ever made—and the game that laid the foundation for CAPCOM’s later masterpiece Shadow Over Mystara.
This is an original Japanese B1 poster issued in 1993 to promote Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom, CAPCOM’s officially licensed D&D arcade adventure created in partnership with TSR (the original publisher of Dungeons & Dragons). Posters of this kind were produced in very limited quantities, typically for arcade operators and in‑store promotion, and were never sold commercially. Authentic surviving B1 examples are increasingly difficult to find.
The artwork is spectacular, featuring a heroic party mid‑battle against classic D&D monsters in a sweeping, painted fantasy scene under a dramatic golden sky. The top banner displays the iconic Dungeons & Dragons branding with Japanese text, and the poster also bears the official TSR emblem and SSI (Strategic Simulations, Inc.) logo—an important piece of period licensing history. At the bottom, the bold CAPCOM logo and 1993 copyright line further anchor this as a true original-era promotional print.
Tower of Doom (1993) was a landmark arcade release because it fused CAPCOM’s signature side‑scrolling action with genuine tabletop‑style mechanics—branching paths, inventory/items, spells, secrets, and team-based strategy—creating an experience that felt like a playable D&D campaign in an arcade cabinet. Players choose from classic classes (including Fighter, Cleric, Elf, and Dwarf) and fight through a richly illustrated fantasy world that remains a fan favorite three decades later.
Artist note (identification): the illustration is signed “BROM” within the artwork (visible in the lower-right area), strongly attributing the art to acclaimed fantasy illustrator Gerald Brom (“Brom”). Brom is celebrated for his distinctive, high-impact dark fantasy style and for influential work across the D&D/TSR era—making this poster especially desirable not only as arcade history, but as a piece of fantasy illustration in its own right.
Condition:
This poster is in excellent condition for its age. Colors remain strong and vibrant, the image presents beautifully, and the reverse is clean overall (see back photos). Only light handling/storage wear consistent with careful preservation may be present—please review the additional imagery provided (front and back).
As with nearly all arcade promotional posters, print runs were very small compared to film posters, making survival rates extremely low—especially for licensed crossover pieces like this (CAPCOM × TSR × SSI).
Provenance:
This is an original Japanese-market, non-commercial B1 promotional poster for Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom (1993), sourced from private arcade ephemera holdings. It was produced strictly for promotional display and not for retail sale.
It is not a reproduction or a reprint.
A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
