“Funny Face” (パリの恋人), Original Japanese B2 Movie Poster 1987 Re‑Release, B2 Size (c. 51 × 73 cm) O570
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the 1987 re‑release of Funny Face as part of an “Audrey Hepburn Funny Face Festival” retrospective. The film, originally released in 1957, is a Technicolor musical romance directed by Stanley Donen and starring Audrey Hepburn alongside Fred Astaire. Produced by Paramount, it has become one of Hepburn’s signature roles, celebrated for its blend of fashion photography, Parisian locations and Gershwin songs.
Film background
Funny Face follows shy Greenwich Village bookshop clerk Jo Stockton, whose bohemian philosophy and striking looks catch the eye of fashion photographer Dick Avery. Whisked away to Paris to model for a major fashion magazine, Jo finds herself torn between the rarefied world of haute couture and her own intellectual ideals, while slowly falling for Avery. The movie is packed with iconic set‑pieces—from the “Think Pink!” opening number to Hepburn’s black‑turtleneck dance in the Paris nightclub—and showcases costumes by Hubert de Givenchy, making it a cornerstone of both film musical history and cinematic fashion.
Poster design
This elegant B2 uses a single, glamorous image of Hepburn to do all the talking. The lower half is dominated by a lush colour still of Audrey in a wide‑brimmed straw hat, white gloves and floral dress, clutching an armful of yellow flowers and greenery, her face turned slightly upward in a poised, almost statuesque profile. The upper portion is mostly clean white, giving the design a spacious, gallery‑poster feel. At the top right, a blue panel reads “AUDREY HEPBURN FUNNY FACE FESTIVAL,” while the vertical Japanese title “パリの恋人” in blue calligraphy runs gracefully down the right side. A small pink block of text at upper left provides Japanese copy and credits, keeping the focus firmly on Hepburn’s timeless image.
