“Goldfinger” (007 ゴールドフィンガー), Original Japanese Press‑Sheet / Speed Poster, 1965 First Release, Speed Size (26 × 73 cm) ZA433
This is an original Japanese speed poster / press‑sheet, approximately 26 × 73 cm, produced in 1965 for the Japanese theatrical release of the James Bond film Goldfinger (007 ゴールドフィンガー).
Film background
Goldfinger, the third Bond film starring Sean Connery, is often cited as the movie that perfected the 007 formula — combining a larger‑than‑life villain (Auric Goldfinger), an unforgettable Bond girl (Honor Blackman’s Pussy Galore), the Aston Martin DB5, ingenious gadgets and Shirley Bassey’s powerhouse title song. The film was a global smash, cementing Bond as a pop‑culture icon and setting the tone for the series for decades to come.
Poster design
Japanese speed posters were designed as quick‑reference advertising tools for theatres and the press, and this Goldfinger example is especially striking. One side features the classic image of Bond and his golden‑tinted lover superimposed on a shimmering gold hand, while the reverse is laid out as long strips of “film” filled with tiny frames from key scenes. Logos, credits and the 007 gun symbol are neatly integrated into the graphic layout. The result feels like a miniature retrospective of the movie, emphasising both the glamour and action that made Goldfinger a sensation.
Rarity and condition
Press‑sheet / speed posters were printed in much smaller quantities than standard B2/B3 posters and were often discarded once booking decisions had been made. Surviving examples from the 1960s Bond films are therefore extremely difficult to locate, especially in collectable condition.
