Issued in 1961 for an important Japanese revival of Gone with the Wind, this original B2 is especially desirable because it promotes the film’s upgraded “Wide Screen” and “Stereo Sound System” presentation, both printed prominently at the bottom. That makes it far more than a standard reissue: it is a poster for a specific moment in the film’s exhibition history, when one of Hollywood’s greatest epics was reintroduced to Japanese audiences with then-modern theatrical technology. The release also tied into the centenary of the American Civil War, giving the campaign additional historical resonance. Original Japanese paper for Gone with the Wind is always sought after, but this 1961 widescreen / stereo B2 stands out as one of the most attractive and historically interesting revival posters for the title.

Design highlights
This poster delivers everything collectors want from classic Gone with the Wind paper: the unforgettable image of Rhett Butler carrying Scarlett O’Hara, the huge red Japanese title dominating the centre, and the blazing wartime tableau stretching across the bottom edge. The contrast between the soft, painterly central embrace and the fiery destruction below gives the design both romance and spectacle in equal measure. The English title block at upper right, the vertical Japanese billing at left, the laurel motifs, and the Oscar statuette all reinforce the film’s status as a prestige classic. Unlike some later reissues with louder or more modernised colours, this 1961 printing retains a rich, elegant, painterly palette, which gives it exceptional period charm and display appeal.

Cultural impact
By the early 1960s, Gone with the Wind had already become more than a successful film—it was a global cinematic monument. This Japanese revival is particularly interesting because it marketed the film through the language of new exhibition technology, with widescreen and enhanced stereo sound used as major selling points. That blend of old Hollywood mythmaking and early-1960s cinema modernisation gives this poster a special place in the film’s long poster history, and makes it especially appealing to collectors of both Golden Age cinema and Japanese re-release paper.

Condition
Overall very good to excellent condition for an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster from 1961. The poster shows the expected light wear / handling impressions, faint surface creasing, and gentle age toning / marks to the blank reverse. There is a faint period Japanese stamp in the top right hand part of the poster. Despite these minor signs of age, it presents beautifully, with strong colour, clean paper, and excellent display impact. Please review the photos carefully, as they show the exact poster for sale.
