"Humanoids from the Deep"(モンスター・パニック), Original Japanese First Release Movie Poster 1980, B3 Size (c. 36 × 51.5 cm) O638
This is an original Japanese B3 poster issued in Japan for the first domestic theatrical release of Monster: Humanoids from the Deep (released in Japan as モンスター・パニック), the notorious seaside creature-feature directed by Barbara Peeters—starring Doug McClure, Ann Turkel, and Vic Morrow, with an early score by James Horner. The film opened theatrically in Japan on 4 October 1980 (United Artists Japan / ユナイト映画).
A quintessential early-80s “monster panic” title, it has become a cult favourite for its pulpy drive, creature design, and unabashed exploitation-era tone—an unmistakable artefact of the period’s New World–adjacent genre cinema.
Poster design
A wildly dramatic, fully illustrated Japanese key art: the black, slime-slick humanoid erupts from the surf as a terrified woman scrambles through the shallows—pure B-movie nightmare rendered with high-impact colour and motion. The design is crowned by massive scarlet title type モンスター・パニック, while the vertical red copy at right delivers the campaign’s sensational hook: 「なぜ…女性ばかりが狙われる!」 (“Why… are only women being targeted!”), followed by lines promising unknown horrors rising “from the unfathomable deep.” The result is an exceptionally displayable, era-perfect piece of Japanese horror marketing—bold, lurid, and instantly readable from across a room.
As a further bonus, the reverse is fully printed with Japanese text and imagery (programme-style synopsis/cast/features), making this a particularly desirable piece of original Japanese theatrical ephemera rather than a standard one-sided poster.
