“It’s Too Late Tomorrow” (明日では遅すぎる / Domani è troppo tardi), Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1950, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P150
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed for the first Japanese release of It’s Too Late Tomorrow (Domani è troppo tardi), the acclaimed Italian drama directed by Léonide Moguy and starring Vittorio De Sica and Pier Angeli. This is a beautiful Japan-only illustrated design—a striking example of how Japanese distributors reinterpreted European cinema with bespoke artwork created specifically for the local release.
Film background
Released in 1950, It’s Too Late Tomorrow is a serious post-war European drama centred on youth, morality, and the consequences of adult hypocrisy—an issue-driven, emotionally charged story that made a major impact internationally. The film’s reputation was further cemented by festival recognition and awards attention, and it remains one of the notable Italian releases of the early 1950s period.
Poster design
A superb, painterly composition with classic mid-century melodrama intensity: De Sica dominates the frame in a yellow raincoat, solemnly carrying an unconscious young woman through storm and water—an image that instantly communicates danger, vulnerability, and moral crisis. The deep crimson borders and bold Japanese title typography give the sheet enormous wall impact, while the Italian title DOMANI È TROPPO TARDI sits beneath the central image, reinforcing its European identity. The overall effect is unmistakably Japanese-release artwork—dramatic, elegant, and far more illustrative than typical Italian/European paper from the period.
Original cinema-used snipe still attached (verso)
A particularly important feature of this example is the original cinema snipe still attached, visible on the reverse: a red-and-white exhibitor strip with handwritten screening dates (and period theatre information). This is direct provenance that the poster was actually used in a Japanese cinema at the time—an increasingly rare survival detail for posters of this era.
