“Kill Bill Vol. 2 — KILL is LOVE”, Original Japanese Theatrical Movie Poster 2004, Ultra Rare, Large B1 Size (c. 71 × 103 cm)
This is an original Japanese B1 poster printed for the 2004 domestic release of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol. 2. It is the coveted “KILL is LOVE” style—an arresting, Japan‑only design created for the film’s Golden Week rollout (note the credit line “2004 G.W.”) and the local tagline 「ザ・ラブ・ストーリー」 (“The Love Story”) along the bottom. This is not a reprint.
Design
Uma Thurman’s Bride, in wedding veil and lace dress, stands against a deep black field, katana leveled across the frame. Sweeping over the dress is a neon‑pink tattoo‑like line illustration that curls into the large headline KILL is LOVE—a perfect encapsulation of Vol. 2’s operatic collision of vengeance and romance. The sparing typography (cast list; www.killbill.jp; 2004 G.W.) lets the imagery dominate; in B1 scale it reads like a gallery print.
Tarantino × Japan
Tarantino’s two‑part saga is a love letter to Japanese cinema and pop culture—from yakuza and chanbara iconography to casting Gordon Liu and Sonny Chiba (Vol. 1), and the Bride’s mythic katana. The music cements the connection: Vol. 1 features Meiko Kaji’s “Shura no Hana” from Lady Snowblood (a key influence on the Bride’s origin), while Vol. 2 closes with Kaji’s haunting “Urami Bushi” (from Female Convict Scorpion), threading the films to the golden age of Japanese exploitation and samurai cinema. This poster’s bridal concept and “KILL is LOVE” slogan underline Vol. 2’s final, elegiac turn—the Japanese key art collectors chase.
