Sale price $250.00

This is an original Japanese B1 poster for Krull (銀河伝説クルール), the ambitious British-American science-fantasy adventure directed by Peter Yates. The film was produced in 1983, runs 121 minutes, and opened theatrically in Japan on 18 February 1984 through Columbia.

Film background

Set on the planet Krull, the film follows Prince Colwyn as he sets out to rescue Princess Lyssa after she is abducted by the Beast and his forces. The cast includes Ken Marshall, Lysette Anthony, Freddie Jones, Francesca Annis, and Alun Armstrong, while the score was composed by James Horner and the effects work involved Derek Meddings, whose name is closely associated with large-scale fantasy and science-fiction spectacle of the period.

Poster design

This is a superb large-format Japanese design, and especially impressive in B1, which gives the artwork real scale. The composition is dominated by a blazing fantasy tableau: the hero and heroine stand within claw-like forms, framed by a monstrous spectral face, planets, stars, and shafts of radiant light cutting across deep space. The highly stylised metallic title at the top and the vivid red Japanese copy at the bottom give the sheet a distinctly early-1980s science-fantasy feel. It is a bold, theatrical image that perfectly captures the film’s blend of heroic quest, cosmic menace, and romantic adventure. The larger B1 format makes it particularly effective as a display piece.
