This is an original Japanese B2 poster printed for the Japanese theatrical release of Layer Cake (レイヤー・ケイク), the stylish British crime thriller directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Daniel Craig, Colm Meaney, Sienna Miller and Michael Gambon.

Film background

Based on J.J. Connolly’s novel, Layer Cake follows an unnamed London cocaine middleman who plans to retire from the drug trade, only to find himself dragged deeper into a maze of competing gangsters, missing drugs and shifting loyalties. Released in 2004 in the U.K., the film became a cult favourite and was instrumental in Daniel Craig’s casting as James Bond, showcasing his cool, controlled charisma in a crime setting.

Poster design

The Japanese B2 uses one of the film’s most inventive concepts: the entire design is built out of ecstasy tablets. From a distance the composition resolves into a clean graphic layout with the title and central portrait of Craig, but up close every shape is formed from hundreds of tiny pills in different colours, echoing the film’s focus on the synthetic‑drug underworld. Japanese and English titles sit alongside the cast list and credits, with the overall yellow‑and‑white palette reinforcing both the “layered” motif and the cold, manufactured world the characters inhabit. It’s a clever, highly graphic poster that stands out from more conventional gangster imagery.
