“Léon: The Professional”, Original Release Japanese Movie Poster 1996, B2 Size (51 × 73 cm) P142
This is an original Japanese B2 theatrical poster printed in 1996 for the Japanese release of Léon: The Professional (レオン), presented here as the “Integral Version / 完全版”—the extended cut of Luc Besson’s modern action-thriller classic. Starring Jean Reno, Natalie Portman, and Gary Oldman, it is one of the most iconic cult hits of 1990s cinema, blending intense action with a surprisingly emotional, character-driven core.
Film background
Set in New York, the film follows Léon, a solitary professional hitman whose life is disrupted when he becomes the reluctant protector of Mathilda, a young girl whose family has been murdered. As Léon teaches her the tools of survival, the story escalates toward violent confrontation with corrupt DEA agent Stansfield (Oldman in full volatile form). The film’s style—clean, brutal, and emotionally charged—helped define the sleek international action cinema of the decade, while Portman’s debut performance became instantly legendary.
Poster design
A superb, minimalist photographic composition built around the film’s instantly recognisable iconography: Reno towering in sunglasses and beanie, weapon holster visible, while Portman crouches below with a handgun—both framed in a gritty hallway, tense and defensive. The huge red typography LEON INTEGRAL VERSION slices across the image with late-’90s graphic confidence, while the Japanese title レオン and 完全版 callout clearly identify this as the extended-cut release poster. It’s an exceptionally displayable B2—bold, cinematic, and instantly “Léon” from across the room.
